Developing Good Dental Habits In Galt

Developing Good Dental Habits In Galt

Benjamin Franklin once said:

It is easier to prevent bad habits than to break them.

This holds true for almost everything in life, including dental care. For parents in the Galt, Lodi and Stockton areas, teaching your children good oral hygiene techniques early in life will help them avoid the lifelong consequences.

If you wait too long to teach your child how to brush and floss, or if you don’t make sure they are doing it enough, you’re setting yourself up for a lot of work down the road.

It’s very hard to convince an older child that they should be spending two or three times longer brushing their teeth each morning and night. But, if they’ve done it for as long as they can remember, then their habits should be sufficient to avoid excessive dental decay or the need for children’s cosmetic dentistry in Lodi.

We’re Drs. Neal and Hittle dentists serving the Galt area. We know that helping children learn proper oral hygiene is a critical indicator of future oral health, and we want to help parents teach these habits to their children.

If you are looking for quality dental care in the Galt, Lodi, or Stockton area, give us a call here at The Lodi Dentist. We are currently accepting new patients, and we would love to help you learn how to teach kids good brushing habits or answer questions you have have about cosmetic dentistry or smile makeovers.

5 Ways To Floss Daily In Lodi

Hello Lodi! If you want to floss regularly but are too tired at night, this post is for you. In our The Lodi Dentist blog, we want to give you a few ideas for unique times to floss and keep your teeth and gums healthy.

1. If you’re an early riser, try flossing in the morning right after you brush.

2. Try just after lunch, but before you go back to work.

3. Before or after you exercise. Your oral health is just as important as your physical fitness. Keep some floss in your gym bag and give your teeth and gums some attention along with the rest of your body.

4. During the nightly news.

5. While taking a bath. Any task is more enjoyable if it can be done while relaxing in a warm tub. Light some scented candles, play some soothing music and turn off your cell phone for an at-home spa experience.

Flossing is essential for anyone in Lodi who wants to have a healthy smile. I hope this gives you some ideas to help you make flossing part of your daily routine. Just before bedtime, however, is still the best choice. Food particles left on teeth can turn to plaque while you sleep. The bacteria in plaque erodes enamel, creates cavities, and adversely affects gum tissue.

If you want to improve your smile, look into cosmetic dentistry procedures such as teeth whitening, invisible braces or porcelain veneers.

We are Drs. Neal and Hittle. Our practice is located in Lodi. Helping our dental patients establish good habits is important to us, as well as helping them achieve the smile they want with cosmetic dentistry procedures such as veneers, porcelain crowns, and complete smile makeovers.

We are currently accepting new patients, so give us a call at (209) 369-3657 to make an appointment!

The Lodi Dentist Guide To Dry Mouth

The Lodi General Dentistry Guide To Dry Mouth

Many folks in our Lodi community experience dry mouth occasionally. Some develop dry mouth in social situations or when they are under a lot of stress. Sporadic or infrequent dry mouth is usually not a problem. Constant dry mouth, or xerostomia, is not only irritating, it can lead to severe health problems.

Lodi people should not take their saliva for granted. Your saliva plays a very important role in maintaining your health. One of its roles is to help digest your food. The moment food enters your mouth, saliva starts breaking it down so your body can metabolize it. If you don’t produce enough saliva to perform this task your body may not be getting important nutrients needed to stay healthy.

Saliva also functions as a disinfectant by cleansing the mouth of leftover food, bacteria, and fungi.
This helps prevent tooth decay and infections. Many Lodi residents don’t realize that many of the foods we eat are very acidic and our saliva helps counteract those acids in our mouths.

We are Drs. Neal and Hittle. At The Lodi Dentist, we have been treating xerostomia since 2013. We recommend cutting back on caffeine in such drinks as cola, coffee, and tea. Not only do these beverages stain and discolor your teeth, the caffeine can contribute to dry mouth. We also recommend drinking water throughout the day to make sure you are adequately hydrated.

Tobacco and alcohol can also contribute to dry mouth. Consult your Sacramento physician if you are taking medication that is causing your dry mouth.

Dry mouth is not a natural part of aging, so call The Lodi Dentist today and schedule an appointment if your dry mouth is getting worse as you grow older.
